How Our Program Works
Patients from historically underserved backgrounds are more likely to need emergency surgery for preventable problems, leading to higher rates of morbidity and mortality

The Center for Surgical Health is working to eradicate these disparities by providing patients with the support they need to obtain timely, affordable, and affirming care.

Once a patient is referred to CSH, they are paired with a personal patient navigator (PPN) who is trained to support the next steps in coordinating care. PPNs assist patients by:
-
Helping them secure health insurance
-
Escorting them to tests and appointments
-
Providing support for transportation to Penn
-
Arranging translation services
-
Connecting them with other social support services
